Volunteer With Us

Why volunteer in Scouting?

Volunteering is not just about giving back, it goes both ways. It improves your wellbeing, gives you skills for the future, helps you make new friends and memories. Whether you want to work with young people directly or help behind the scenes, there's something for everyone at the

7th Southampton (Bassett) Scout Group.

So come and volunteer it’s #GoodForYou

Some facts you might not know:

  • None of our Leaders are paid – They all volunteer!

  • Most Leaders also have a full time job and a family.

  • Leaders get involved so that they can have fun, learn new skills and make new friends themselves.

  • You don’t need previous experience – All we need is energy and enthusiasm!

  • Many volunteers help out on a flexible basis, some volunteers only help out once a year.

  • Not all volunteers wear uniform.

  • Not all volunteers work directly with Young People. There are jobs such as DIY, event organising or doing the accounts.

  • All members are covered by insurance while taking part in Scouting.

  • New leaders undergo enhanced criminal record checks, to ensure they are fit to work with Young People and within Scouting.
